The 10th District legislators are calling on Governor Phil Murphy to immediately distribute portions of the CARES Act funding to help New Jersey’s suffering small businesses. Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano believe the $2.1 billion of unspent federal funding the Governor is sitting on could make a major impact on businesses that are struggling to survive because of COVID-19 and the extended shutdown by the Governor.

Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano are calling on the Governor to reconsider these closures and reopen the areas that are funded through profits made from the users of the parks and license fees.
The legislators have released this statement regarding the Governor’s decision and support the NJOA and the immediate reopening of these wildlife management areas.

The 10th District legislators voted against a massive $7.7 billion spending bill (S-20) to extend the FY 2023 State Budget after the Murphy Administration pushed this state further into debt amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano issued the following statement to explain how this budget lacks any input from Republican legislators:
“Trenton Democrats have refused to work across the aisle to create a reasonable and affordable budget proposal to get New Jersey back on track after it was impacted by the public health emergency. Republicans have addressed their concerns to Governor Murphy about the many challenges facing our State, including tax revenue losses and an unconstitutional plan to borrow without voter approval. Unfortunately, these matters have been ignored and the Governor has his own agenda separate from the people we represent.

Lawmakers say Governor’s excessive spending and increasing taxes to blame
In 2023, New Jersey was ranked the highest in the country for residents moving out of state. The 10th District Legislators, Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano address the exodus of residents and point to the unending tax increases and excessive spending under the Murphy administration in his effort to turn New Jersey into the next California.
“For far too long New Jerseyans have watched as Governor Murphy slashed school funding, increased the minimum wage and catered to undocumented immigrants,” stated Senator Holzapfel. “Our property taxes are astronomical and the overall cost of living and running a business in this state has forced residents to move elsewhere. The Governor’s extreme measures in response to the Coronavirus pandemic have left a lasting impact on our state’s economy which will leave a lasting impact for years to come.”

In response to months of mandatory shutdown across the state, 10th District Legislators Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano have sponsored a resolution which would prevent the overreaching of the Governor’s executive powers. SCR-117 and ACR-181 proposes a constitutional amendment to limit effective period of certain emergency orders, rules, or regulations issued by Governor to 14 days.
“We cannot allow one person’s decisions with such far-reaching consequences to impact an entire state for so long without legislative input,” said Senator Holzapfel. “This measure would ensure that the people’s elected representatives from all corners of the state have a say in whether consequential emergency orders should be extended.”
